Local athlete earns high school football honors

Mateo Gonzales of Sweetwater was among a handful of area high school football players to earn recognition on the All-Big Country Super Team announced Sunday by the Abilene Reporter-News.
The 5-10, 225-pound senior was named to the second team as a defen-sive lineman after recor-ding 43 solo tackles in-cluding 16 tackles for a loss, 32 assists and three sacks.
Gonzales was one of six Sweetwater football players recognized on the All-Big Country Class 3A-5A team announced Friday. Four football players from Roscoe and one from Highland were also recognized last week on the Class 1A and Six-Man All-Big Country teams, respectively.
