Goodfellows toy drive set for Dec. 4

November 29, 2010

Girl Scout Troop #7000 donated 275 boxes of cookies to the Sweetwater Goodfellows. Pictured are (from left to right) Megan Dean, Taylor Shamblin, Marissa Sanchez, Lauren Rodriguez, Goodfellow's helpers, Elli & Kara with their father Dustin Lehnert standing behind the girls and Christa Arnold. Not pictured is Jasmine Foster & Lisa Tollison. The Sweetwater Goodfellows annual toy drive will be Saturday, Dec. 4, from 10a.m. to 4 p.m. at Wal-Mart.

Sweetwater Goodfellows work hard every year to provide toys and food for people in Nolan County that need assistance during the Christmas season. For the past 81 years, the Goodfellows have been spreading Christmas cheer to local families in need; this year, they are expanding that area and including all of Nolan County. Instead of only serving Sweetwater, they will now be taking on Roscoe, Maryneal, Nolan and Blackwell. Last year, the Goodfellows helped out almost 1,000 individuals between the 889 individuals signed up for Goodfellows and the 103 nursing home residents receiving sweatshirts.
For those who would like to help, donation boxes for toys and food are located at KXOX, First Financial Bank, Nolan County Courthouse, Higginbotham (Radio Shack), Sweetwater TA Travel Center, Sweetwater Reporter, Oak Street Salon, SLJ Embroidery and Gifts, Texas State Technical College, County-City Library and all Sweetwater schools. The Goodfellows toy drive will be at Wal-Mart on Saturday, Dec. 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Hot dogs will be served free with a donation to Goodfellows.
For those who would like to make a monetary donation, send it to Sweetwater Goodfellows P.O. Box 1148 Sweetwater, Texas 79556.
