Goodwill to move to new location

February 18, 2012

In spite of some changes, the Sweetwater Goodwill is still taking donations at its current store while working toward the opening of a new location.
On the company's blog post from Wednesday morning, February 8, 2012, the Sweetwater store located on Lamar Street was "temporarily closed due to major repair work.”
According to Goodwill-West Texas president Cindy Haley, the building--an older facility occupied by Goodwill for the past seventeen years--and roof were in dire need of repair.
"We [knew] the repairs would take a considerable amount of time and money to complete," said Haley. The company was faced with two options--either renovate the current building or relocate to a newer facility.
That very afternoon, Goodwill announced on their blog they had found a new location on 701 East Broadway.
Haley described the new and larger facility as "a better location for us and our customers. The building style and layout is much better suited for our retail needs allowing us to have a wider variety of merchandise in the store."
During this transition, the company is preparing the Broadway location to open in the near future as soon as possible. Also, Sweetwater employees are still working at the three Abilene branches.
However, donations are still being accepted at the Lamar Street location, with some Sweetwater workers staying employed locally.
Haley noted, "We are still accepting donations at our donation drop off truck located in front of the Lamar Street Goodwill location during regular business hours (weather permitting)."
"We appreciate our customers' and donors' continued support during the transition to our new location. Goodwill has been in Sweetwater for a long time. We want to continue that relationship and remain committed to Sweetwater."
Along with the three Abilene stores and the Sweetwater branch, Goodwill stores are also located in Clyde, San Angelo, Big Spring, Midland, Odessa, Brownwood, Eastland and Brady.
