Gordon Dean “Pop” Bales

Funeral services for Gordon Dean "Pop" Bales, 84, of Sweetwater, will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, at McCoy Chapel of Memories with Rev. Jimmy Don Bennett officiating. Interment will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home. The Nolan County Honor Guard will perform military graveside rites.
Bales died Monday, Jan. 3, 2011, in Sweetwater. He was born May 1, 1926, in Jones County, Texas. He married Gladys Davis in Texarkana, Texas. Pop was a retired oil field pumper. He was a U.S. Army veteran and had lived in Sweetwater for the past 25 years, moving from California.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys Bales of Sweetwater; one son, Larry Bales of Taneytown, MD; grandchildren, Michael Bales of Virginia and Jenny Bales of Virginia; one great-grandchild, Luna Bales of Virginia; foster grandson, Eddie Bailey of Yuma, Ariz.; sister-in-law, Milda Herndon of Sweetwater; aunt, Twila Culpepper of Sweetwater; and cousin, Peggy Kimble of Sweetwater.
He was preceded in death by his son, Tony Bales in 1986; his parents, Wesley and Edna Bales; and brother, Harry Bales.
Pallbearers will be Billy Sanderson, Mark Sager, David Sager, Kevin Sager, Sherman Williams and Bradley Keith Willman.
Honorary pallbearers will be Lynn Herndon, Jimmy Ellis and Doug Bailey.
