Gordon I. Root, 61, passed away on March 25, 2012, after a three year battle with Lou Gehrig's Disease (ALS). Born in Westfield, MA, Gordon retired to West Texas six years ago to begin writing a series of books commemorating the 100 year anniversary of World War I. Before falling ill he had completed three of the set including Battles East, Battles in the Alps and Balkan Battles under the pen name G. Irving Root.
A Past Master of Oasis Lodge #61 in Las Vegas, Nevada, Gordon is survived by his wife of 36 years, Elaine; two daughters, Whitney and Victoria; a son-in-law, Brennan, of Las Vegas; a sister, Carolyn, of Colorado; a sister-in-law, Anna, of Massachusetts; two grandchildren, Aidan and Lorelei, of Las Vegas; and several nieces and nephews.
A loving father, son, brother, and husband, Gordon was an avid outdoorsman, deltiologist, entrepreneur and lover of history. He will be sorely missed.
