November 18, 2013

The Sweetwater Fire Department was recently awarded with a grant from Georgia-Pacific.
"Inspired by the efforts of our nation's firefighters — including the many Georgia-Pacific employees serving their communities as volunteer firefighters — we have tapped into the inspirational history of firefighting to create the Georgia-Pacific Bucket Brigade™," said Georgia-Pacific officials.
Founded in 2006, Georgia-Pacific Bucket Brigadeâ„¢ provides support which includes:
• Grants which are co-sponsored by the Georgia-Pacific Foundation and local GP facilities;
• Continuing education programs and materials to help spread the word about fire safety;
• Memberships for all grant applicants to the National Volunteer Fire Council.
The local fire department was awarded $5,000 that will help towards buying new and updated bunker gear for firefighters, according to Sweetwater Fire Chief Grant Madden.
