GreenFest, Ride for Wind this weekend

April 29, 2011

Sweetwater will host its second annual GreenFest at the Nolan County Courthouse Square on Saturday, April 30, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event will feature live music, food, family activities, new energy innovations, electric and hybrid vehicles, large wind energy parts, international films about Sweetwater and Nolan County, and more. TXU Energy and Altezza Global are the GreenFest sponsors along with the Mayor’s Youth Task Force and the Texas Wind Energy Clearinghouse.
The event will be held in conjunction with the Ride For Wind motorcycle event that previews at the Courthouse on Friday, April 29, and finishes at the Courthouse on Saturday afternoon, April 30.
The Ride for Wind event this weekend in Sweetwater, Texas is organized by Shermco Industries and sponsored by many donors.
All proceeds of the 2010 ride went directly to fund scholarships at TSTC (Texas State Technical College), through WoWE (Women of Wind Energy). “We will continue this event for years to come including 2011, as long as we have outside support from a menagerie of major corporate sponsorships,” said Rally Director Chris DeHart. “Future plans are to find a home base for the rally. So far Sweetwater has been the focal point of this event. Other plans are to extend the rally for three days.”
According to DeHart, a proposed Friday, Saturday and Sunday program is in the works for 2012. With a bike show, ride and festival featuring local and national vendors. “We are rapidly growing into one of the nation’s largest wind specific events,” he added.
