With a great headliner, great sponsors and wonderful donors, this year’s 42nd annual West Texas Rehabilitation Center’s telethon promises to be the best yet. At seven o’clock on Jan. 21, new comer Sunny Sweeney will step into the spotlight at REHAB 2012.
Suddenlink Communications is the official sponsor and as they have for many years Area-Wide Phone Books is also helping underwrite the show. The Host Hotel for the Telethon is the MCM Elegante Suites. Telethon auction support is provided by NTS Communications.
Sunny Sweeney is an up and coming country music star that will delight the audience. Hailing from East Texas, Sunny is a singer/songwriter with musical instincts that are stone-cold country. Her debut album, Heartbreaker's Hall Of Fame was released in March 2007. Sunny's second album, Concrete, was released in August 2011. Among the 10 tracks, the album features "Drink Myself Single," "From a Table Away," "Worn Out Heart," and more.
Charlie Chase, longtime co-host of the popular “Crook and Chase” talk show on the Nashville Network will return for the 12th year to anchor the Rehab 2012 host desk for the five-hour special.
Texas legend Red Steagall will be back along with The Boys in the Bunkhouse for the show. Other regulars lined up to appear are Bill and Susan Hayes (Days of Our Lives), Brad Maule (General Hospital) and Twyla Foreman.
Television stations in Abilene, San Angelo, Austin, Corpus Christi, Laredo, Midland/Odessa, Lubbock, Amarillo, Waco/Temple and Wichita Falls/Lawton, Oklahoma carry the show live. The show will again be streaming live at WestTexasRehab.org.
In addition to the telethon, an annual internet auction of merchandise and services provided by friends and businesses will take bids at WestTexasRehab.org. Bids will be accepted beginning in late December and will continue through the Jan. 21, telecast. Auction items will be on display at the Abilene Civic Center beginning at 6 p.m. on the 21st. Last year, over $400,000 in merchandise in 19 different categories was featured in the auction.
The annual telethon raises more than one million dollars in support of the West Texas Rehabilitation Center. Each day there are more than 500 patient visits in our facilities in Abilene, San Angelo and Ozona. No one is ever turned away from the REHAB because of their financial circumstance. The Center was established in 1953 as a private non-profit outpatient rehabilitation center and has become one of the largest, most comprehensive facilities of its kind in the nation.
The Rehab 2012 Telethon will air live and originates from the Abilene Civic Center on Jan. 21, from 7 p.m. to midnight. Tickets to the show are $12 each for those who like to be a part of the Abilene Civic Center audience for this entertainment event. Tickets can be purchased at the West Texas Rehabilitation Center and at the Abilene Civic Center box office.
