A storm packing high winds blew through Sweetwater on Thursday afternoon, leaving a trail of damage behind.
Winds toppled power lines on Interstate 20, temporarily closing the highway. The roof of 7-11 along Interstate 20 was blown off into the Highland Heights United Methodist Church parking lot and a wreck also occurred on Interstate 20 about the same time. The interstate was blocked for some time due to the downed power line.
"Significant inconvenience to different people, places, and businesses. It just swooped in and caused this damage in the blink of an eye," said Chief Jim Kelley of the Sweetwater Police Department.
As of Thursday evening, power was still out at Sweetwater's water treatment plant and Sweetwater ISD schools were postponed until 10 a.m. Power was restored on Friday morning.
