Highland’s football team had a total of 13 players who received all-District 7, Division I recognition for their outstanding play.
Michael Hyde, Shelby Howard and Gaga Soedar-sono made the first team, Hyde at running back and linebacker and Soedarsono and Howard at tight end and defensive lineman, re-spectively. Earning special honors was sophomore Seth Wood, named the district newcomer of the year. Hyde, a senior, will play in the Texas Six-Man Coaches Association’s all-star game in Wichita Falls next July. He rushed for 1,565 yards and also had 84 tackles (57 solo). Wood caught seven passes for 143 yards, recovered two fumbles, blocked well and “really improved as the season progressed,” said Highland coach Jeff Shelton. Howard, a junior, had 67 tackles, six fumble recoveries and one interception that he returned for a touchdown. Soedarson, who is also a junior, caught 20 passes for 490 yards with half of them going for TDs. Hyde had nine catches for 158 yards this season and scored 23 TDs — 20 rush-ing and three receiving — in spite of missing much of the first part of the season due to an injury.
Soedarson and Howard also made the second team at defensive lineman and running back, respectively. Also on the second team were Eli Shelton at running back and as a utility player; Jacob Richburg at quarterback and cornerback; Eth-an Wilson at spreadback and safety; Isaac Rios at utility back; Kaden Nach-linger on special teams; and Jon Basye at linebacker.
