Ron Covington, one of three players garnering first team honors

Several Highland players earned recognition on the all-District 7, Division I football team that was an-nounced recently.
Running back Michael Hyde, special teams player Ron Covington and defensive lineman Shelby Howard made the first team. In addition, six players earned second team honors and five players were given all-district honorable mention.
Hyde (linebacker, kicker), Covington (utility player) and Howard (fullback) also made the second team as did Garrett Stewart at tight end, Ethan Wilson at spread back and safety and Gaga Soedarsono at wide receiver and defensive lineman.
Covington and Hyde have received all-district recog-nition each of the past three years, while both Howard and Stewart were named all-district for the second straight year. Covington and Stewart are seniors, while Hyde and Wilson are juniors and and Howard and Soedarsono are just sophomores for Highland, which was winless in district but finished 5-5 overall.
Getting honorable men-tion all-district honors for Highland were junior Lara-mie Thompson, sophomores Kevin Box and Zack Cornett and freshmen Eli Shelton and Jacob Richburg.
Lance Morris and Logan Morris of Ira were the dist-rict’s offensive and defen-sive players of the year, respectively, while Matt Williams or Rotan was the newcomer of the year.
