Highland and Roscoe both come up short in final games of the year

The Highland and Roscoe football teams were both involved in very competitive season-ending games, but lost close contests.
Highland wrapped up on Thursday by losing to Hermleigh 59-48 in its final six-man game, while Roscoe lost 14-7 on Friday in its Class 1A 11-man game with Roby.

Highland 48
HERMLEIGH — Highland led Hermleigh after each of the first three periods, but was outscored 12-0 in the final 10 minutes. Highland finishes 0-3 in district and 5-5 overall while Hermleigh ends at 1-2, 3-7.
Ethan Wilson’s fourth scoring run gave Highland a 48-41 lead in the third quarter. Wilson had 111 yards rushing and scored on runs of 19, 8, 16 and 19 yards and also threw a 35-yard touch-down pass to Kevin Box.
Michael Hyde ran for 145 yards for Highland includ-ing a 6-yard touchdown run and also had three extra point kicks plus a 19-yard catch, and Garrett Stewart had a 1-yard TD run. Hyde had four solo tackles and five assists, and Stewart had a fumble recovery.
Roby 14, Roscoe 7
ROSCOE — After a 7-7 tie at halftime, Roby (4-3 district, 4-6) scored on a 3-yard run by Sterling Dowden in the third quarter that held up as the winning score. For Roscoe, which ends 2-5 and 2-8, Vincent Pantoja scored the Plowboys’ only touch-down on a 5-yard run in the second quarter with Rafael Pantoja’s PAT kick tying the game at 7. Eduardo Gallegos had 30 yards rushing and Luke Rovig 27 to pace Ros-coe, while QB Cutter Davila threw for 146 yards on 14-of-27 passing.
Shelton Toliver had six catches for 33 yards, while Jesus Leanos had four receptions for 59 yards and Landon Jones finished with two catches for 33 yards.
The Plowboys’ top def-enders were Vincent Pan-toja with 10 solo tackles and five assists; Chris Deleon with seven tackles and three assists; Kevin Lavalais with seven tackles and one assist; Rovig with six tackles, one for a loss, one pass breakup and three assists; Eduardo Gallegos with six tackles and one assist; Brant Burnett with five tackles and two assists; Kane Peavy with four tackles and four assists; and Esteban Benivamondez with four tackles and three assists.
