Highland split a basket-ball doubleheader against Spur on Tuesday. The girls (4-1) won, 53-29, for their fourth straight victory but the boys (1-2) fell to Spur by a score of 37-27.
For the girls, Sierra Allen scored 20 points while Kara Hughey (16) and Beth Rich-burg (11) were also able to reach double figures. Jessica McCain had four and Lora Stewart two for Highland, which led 16-5, 30-10 and 35-16 at the quarter breaks.
The Highland boys were ahead 10-8 after one period against Spur, but trailed 20-18 at halftime and 26-22 entering the fourth quarter of their contest before Spur ended the game with an 11-5 run. Ron Covington had 10 points to lead Highland, while Laramie Thompson had six, Ethan Wilson five and Kaden Nachlinger, Shelby Howard and Garrett Stewart two. The JV boys also lost, 50-27.
The Roscoe girls dropped to 1-3 this season after los-ing, 39-28, in their game at Colorado City. The Plow-girls were led by Faith Boren with 10 points. Sara Kingston had six, Lynnsi Moses five, Jacinda Morales and Carolina Perez three and Stina Tomlin one. Roscoe led 9-7 at the end of the first quarter, but trailed 18-17 at halftime and 28-23 at the end of three periods. In the JV girls game, Colorado City also won by a score of 21-18.
