After another easy win on Friday, Highlandâ€™s girls now find themselves looking down on all five of their basketball rivals in District 13-A, Division II.
Twelve different players scored for Highland in a 70-26 rout of Loraine as the Lady Hornets im-proved to 20-3 overall and 3-0 in district play.
Highland led 26-0 after one quarter and nearly pitched a shutout in the second period as well as it held a 44-3 halftime lead. Madison Moseley had 17 points, Schyler Kimbrell 10, Stephanie Ashford eight, Hannah Allen, Sier-ra Allen and Kaylee Martin six, Kelsi Johns and Syd-ny Helbert four, Beth Richburg three and Taylar Hammond, Lora Stewart and Morgan Monroe two each for the Lady Hornets.
Roscoe, after a 2-0 start, suffered its first loss in district play to fall into a second-place tie. Roscoe is tied with Ira, which won 51-49 in overtime on Fri-day at Ira. The Plowgirls led 44-39 at the end of three periods of play, but Ira used a 9-4 run in the fourth period to send the game to OT and won the extra period 3-1.
Roscoe (13-9) was led by Faith Boren, who had 21 points. Eva Aguayo scored 10 and Torrey Willman six, while Shelby Brown and Carolina Perez each had four and Mirian Solis and Kendall Moses two. Despite the loss, Roscoe can regain a share of the lead Tuesday when it plays host to Highland.
Highlandâ€™s boys are 1-0 in district after beating Loraine 49-42 in their opener Friday. Ron Cov-ington led Highland with 17 points while Kevin Box and Michael Hyde had eight, Brandon Stevens six, Seth Wood and Ethan Wilson four and Jacob Richburg two.
With the win, Highland is now 7-11 overall.
Roscoeâ€™s boys, however, lost to Ira 76-27 in their opener. Cutter Davila had 10 points to pace the Plow-boys while Javier Leanos, Dillon Freeman and Shelton Toliver had four and Kevin Lavalais three against Ira.
