The Highland girls basketball team held on to second place in District 11-A, Division II with a 71-43 victory over Ira on Tuesday.
Highland improved to 19-7 overall and is 7-2 in district play with three games left. The Lady Hornets, trying for an 11th straight trip to the state playoffs, maintained a half-game lead over third-place Loraine and trail only first-place Roby (9-0) in district. Highland plays at Loraine (6-2) on Friday.
Sierra Allen scored 25 points to pace the win over Ira and Beth Richburg had 17 points.
Lora Stewart scored nine, Kara Hughey and Jessica McCain six, Megan Thompson four and Schyler Kimbrell and Madison Moseley two. Highland led 25-5, 44-11 and 57-24 at the quarter breaks. High-landâ€™s 71 points were a one-game high for the team this season.
Highland needs to win just one of its last three games to assure itself of going to the playoffs, which start in February.
Highlandâ€™s boys (2-5 in district) were defeat-ed 78-14 by Ira, which leads the district at 5-1.
Highland was led by Ron Covington with four points and Sheldon Hall, Kevin Box, Shelby How-ard, Brandon Stevens and Laramie Thompson each had two points.
Lynnsi Moses had 24 points for Roscoeâ€™s girls on Tuesday, but they still lost to first-place Munday 53-34. Roscoe fell to 2-4 in District 9-A, Division I and 12-13 for the year. Mirian Solis had four, Jacinda Morales two and Torrey Willman, Faith Boren, Carolina Perez and Kendall Moses one.
Roscoeâ€™s boys (1-4) lost 66-17 to Munday. Jesus Leanos had nine and Keeston Ford and Cutter Davilla four.
