Last year, the Highland and Roscoe girls were 1-2 in the final District 13-1A bas-ketball standings.
With just four games left in the season, it looks like a repeat could be in order, especially if both teams win today. Highland hosts third-place Ira (4-2) and Roscoe hosts fourth-place Westbrook (2-4). Highland clinches a playoff berth for the 13th straight year with a win. Roscoe would also be in the playoffs again if it can knock off Westbrook, which would leave each of the bot-tom three teams in the district with at least five losses with only three games left in the season.
Highland and Roscoe only have to play two more district games since Loraine (0-6) — which is on both teams’ remaining schedules — has forfeited its season.
Meanwhile, the Highland and Roscoe boys, both 3-1 in District 13-1A and tied for second place, still have a lot of work to do to reach the postseason as there are six games still to play.
Roscoe hosts 1-3 West-brook, while Highland hosts first-place Ira (4-0) today. Roscoe actually has a slight advantage over Highland at present due to its 39-33 win on Jan. 14 over the Hornets at Highland. The teams are scheduled to meet again on Jan. 31 at Roscoe. Roscoe and Highland are currently two games ahead of their nearest competitors, Herm-leigh and Westbrook, both 1-3. Highland has a slightly easier schedule than Roscoe after today, since the Plow-boys still have a game with Ira that is scheduled on Tuesday, three days before they host Highland.
