Highland won both ends of a basketball doubleheader Tuesday when its teams made the short trip to face in-county rival Roscoe, as both of the visiting teams stayed unbeaten in District 13-A, Division II.
Highlandâ€™s girls (21-3, 4-0) solidified their hold on first place with a 41-20 win, while the boys (8-11, 2-0) kept their district record spotless by beating Roscoe 35-23.
Highlandâ€™s defense held Roscoe to four first-half points in the girls game as the Lady Hornets built a 19-4 advantage en route to ther ninth straight win overall.
Sierra Allen paced Highland by scoring 17 points. Beth Richburg and Lora Stewart scored six points, Hannah Allen five, Madison Moseley three and Sydny Helbert and Stephanie Asford two. Highland has a one-game lead over Ira (3-1).
Faith Boren led Roscoe (13-10, 2-2) with nine points while Stina Tomlin had three and Eva Aguayo, Mirian Solis, Whitney Williams and Caroline Perez all scored two points.
Highlandâ€™s boys led 11-5, 15-12 and 22-18 over Roscoe at the breaks. Ron Covington led the Hornetsâ€™ win by scoring 15 points while Brandon Ste-vens had seven, Ethan Wilson five, Michael Hyde four, Jacob Richburg three and Sheldon Hall one.
The loss dropped Roscoeâ€™s records to 3-11 overall and 0-2 in district.
Cutter Davils led Roscoe by scor-ing eight points while Shelton Toliver had seven, Dillon Freeman five and Kevin Lavalais three. The teams meet again Feb. 1 at Highland.
