The Highland boys and girls won, but both Roscoe teams lost in area district basketball games Tuesday.
Highlandâ€™s teams are both on a roll in District 11-A, Division II.
The boys (2-2 in district) picked up their second straight victory with a 53-48 road win at Westbrook.
The girls (5-1, 14-9) are even hotter, picking up their sixth victory in their last seven games Tuesday with a 67-49 win.
Highlandâ€™s boys were be-hind 15-10 after one quarter but closed to within one, 25-24, at halftime.
The Hornets went ahead by four, 42-38, after three periods and then out-scored Westbrook 11-10 in the final quarter. Josh Andrews (16), Landon Rowlett (15) and Ron Covington (14) scored in double figures to pace Highlandâ€™s victory.
The Highland girls also started slowly, leading just 19-18 after one period and 35-32 at halftime. But the Lady Hornets seized control with a 22-3 run in the third quarter to take a commanding 57-35 advantage, and also had three players score in double figures.
Kara Hughey was the big gun in Tuesdayâ€™s win as she scored 28 points, while Jessica McCain had 12 and Callie Sandusky 11. Sierra Allen had seven points and Lora Stewart five.
Tuesday was the District 9-A, Division I opener for the Roscoe boys, who bat-tled Haskell on nearly-even terms only to lose, 37-36, at the Roscoe gym.
The Plowboys (8-8 over-all) started well as they took a 10-6 lead after one quar-ter and still held a one-point edge, 16-15, at halftime, but Haskell led 29-28 at the end of three periods and was able to maintain its slender advantage at the end.
Caden Smith paced Ros-coe with 14 points, while Cody Graham had nine and Juan Solis seven. The JV boys also lost, 61-19, as Dil-lon Freeman had eight and Luke Rovig seven.
Points were also hard to come by against Haskell for the Roscoe girls, who had just five at halftime and never warmed up as they lost 34-14.
Roscoe (0-2 in district and 7-13 overall) managed to get scoring from six dif-ferent players, but only one of them was able to score more than two points â€” Lynnsi Moses with four. However, Roscoeâ€™s JV girls won, 31-14. In District 12-A, Division II, the Blackwell boys (1-3) lost to Water Valley 74-32. Caleb Magness had a team-high 11 points.
