Under the new management of Ben McCandliss, General Manager and Mattie Williams, Director of Sales, Holiday Inn Express in Sweetwater welcomes former and new customers to see the renovations taking place at the hotel and to enjoy their many amenities available.
McCandliss moved to Sweetwater from Florida a few months ago to take over the General Manager position at the hotel. He has been in the hotel business for over 15 years and has been involved in the planning, development and building of six hotels during his career. He has also worked for Hampton Inn and Hilton Garden Inn hotels in the past. He has completed both Hampton Inn and Holiday Inn General Manager training.
When asked why he wanted to move to Sweetwater, McCandliss said that he and his family wanted to live in a tight-knight community with a slower pace of life. "We also knew that oil, gas and wind energy sectors were booming in Texas and wanted to be a part of that," said McCandliss.
McCandliss says that his first order of business when taking over the management position at the hotel was to get the building and staff back to where it needed to be. "We want to provide service that every guest deserves," said McCandliss. "Once we get everything back in order we want to become heavily involved in giving back to the community," he added.
McCandliss and his wife Amanda have been married for six years and have a five-year-old son named Gavin.
Mattie Williams is a familiar face to many, not only at Holiday Inn Express, but in Sweetwater as well. Williams has lived in Sweetwater for most of her adult life, graduating from nearby Hermleigh High School. She spent six years as the General Manager at Holiday Inn Express and took an eight month hiatus to return as the Director of Sales. Williams plans to go out and stay involved with the community and be the first to welcome people to Sweetwater and offer the hotel's hospitality to visitors. Her top priority is to bring money to Sweetwater and to create a hotel that guests love. "We want this rebranding of our hotel to help bind our ties to the community, as we are offering the best possible service we can give," said Williams.
Williams has completed both General Manager training and Director of Sales training.
Williams and her husband Danny have been married for 32 years. They have five children and four grandchildren.
Some changes are already being made to the building such as new flooring in the entrance and lobby areas, new bedding for the entire hotel and new paint around the building. New carpet is also going to be installed in the near future.
Some amenities that Holiday Inn Express in Sweetwater already boasts are an indoor pool and hot tub that is accessible year-round and a 600 foot meeting space that is available for just about anything from business meetings to family functions. They also have a work out center that is also going to be updated soon. The hotel offers a wide variety of breakfast items that includes cinnamon rolls and coffee that are special to the hotel chain with their special recipes.
Another item that is special to the Holiday Inn chain is the custom made shower head model that can be found in each bathroom. The local hotel also offers rooms with large soaking tubs and also offers a presidential suite that has a full kitchen and living area. Each room is equipped with a microwave and mini refrigerator, iron and ironing board and extras that most hotels do not offer by the way of complimentary toiletries.
Comfort is also a big factor for Holiday Inn Express. Four king pillows are provided on each bed, two soft and two firm.
Each of the 18 employees at the hotel are local.
