Born to Life Nov. 16, 1910
Born to Life Eternal Jan. 9, 2011
Hollie was born Nov. 16, 1910, in Dallas, Texas. She was joined in Christian marriage to Thomas L. Kennedy before he passed in 1945. By God's grace, Hollie would again enjoy the love and companionship of a mate who would care for her, Elmer E. Smith and they were married in 1948, until she would place him into God's arms of care and grace in 2000. Thomas and Hollie had one son, Thomas F. Kennedy, who preceded her in death on Oct. 16, 2009.
Hollie came to live in Sweetwater in 2007 to enjoy her extended family and to allow for them to assist in her care during her advanced years. This last Nov. 16, 2010, Hollie celebrated her 100th birthday!
Faith Life — grace given to demonstrate a great care for her family.
Loves — reading and buying clothes were her passions in life, much time at the beach, walking, swimming.
Character — caring for her family was her top priority. Well opinionated, understood the things of the world and kept current with world activities, intelligent, personable, not an outgoing person and often kept to herself, not a great social networker, but deeply gave herself to the relationships closest to her, resilient, dealt with adversity head on and rose above the life challenges.
Hollie was every bit the lady, loved wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Kathy Kennedy of Sweetwater; and grandson, Thomas Hines Kennedy and wife Jennifer of San Antonio, Texas.
For the gift of life given to Hollie on Nov. 16, 1910, which lasted 100 years, one month and 24 days on this side of eternity and for the gift of life eternal given to her on Jan. 9, 2011, we say "thanks be to God through our Lord, Jesus Christ." And all God's people say, "Amen!"
A graveside service for Hollie Kennedy Smith, 100, of Sweetwater, will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011,at Sweetwater Cemetery with Rev. Steve Davis officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
