Mustangs start out against Hawley while Lady Stangs entertain Breckenridge

The high school basketball season will be arriving in full force here today, as the Sweetwater boys open their season against Hawley at 8 p.m. and the Sweetwater girls entertain Breckenridge at 6:30 at Mustang Gym.
Also on tap today will be freshman and JV girls con-tests at 5 p.m. in both gyms and a JV boys game at 6:30 at the old high school gym.
Senior all-district post Paxton Kelley is one of three returning varsity players for the Mustangs, who were 17-13 a year ago. B.J. Wal-ker and Taylor Jones also are back and will be joined by an influx of players who have moved up from last year’s JV squad. The Lady Mustangs enter their game at 1-1 after losing their last game at Lake View 54-37. Alicia Finn scored 14 points for Sweetwater. The freshmen and JV girls are both 2-0 after winning 46-19 and 40-17, respectively. Janell Walker had 15 points and Kelsi Crosson 10 to lead the JV girls while for the freshmen girls, Shaneese Brown and Sydney Vanderbilt both had 14 points.
The Highland and Black-well boys also tip off their seasons today, and Roscoe’s girls will be hosting Black-well at 6:30 p.m. Highland’s girls (0-2) lost at Eula 49-48 last Friday despite 26 points by Callie Sandusky. Black-well’s girls (0-2) lost 48-28 at Westbrook but got 11 points from Reccie Roland.
