BLACKWELL — It took Blackwell just 14 plays and two quarters to score 78 points here Friday.
The defense was just as good, pitching a shutout. The result was a 78-0 win as the Hornets improved their season record to 6-0 on Blackwell’s homecoming.
The game was over at halftime due to the 45-point mercy rule used in six-man. Blackwell scored 34 points in the first period and 44 in the second.
Even with just 14 plays on offense, a lot of different players got involved.
Quarterback Matthew Lowry had four pass completions in seven attempts, with all four of them going for touchdowns totalling 129 yards.
But the defense also came up with three TDs plus a safety. Blackwell had 11 touchdowns in the game and recorded its third shut-out of the season as well.
Jayden Jones finished with a season-low 47 yards rushing, but had just four carries, and had a rushing touchdown plus a 52-yard punt return for a TD. Mason Magness scored twice on offense and once on defense, as did Ted Chambliss.
Lowry scored on a run as well as completing two TD passes to Chambliss and one apiece to Magness and Wade Allen. The latter also kicked four extra points.
The defense also got points from Kaleb Edwards, who had two of four Black-well interceptions (Mag-ness and Chambliss had the others). In addition, Mag-ness recovered a fumble and Oakley Anderson had two points after recovering the ball in the end zone for a Blackwell safety. Anderson and Jones had four tackles.
Blackwell will now host Highland in the teams’ an-nual grudge match this Fri-day, the final non-district game for both teams.
