The Blackwell boys bas-ketball team may not win a playoff berth this season, but the Hornets still gave their fans a memorable ef-fort Tuesday at Robert Lee.
Blackwell overcame a five-point deficit after three quarters to tie the Steers 44-44 at the end of regul-ation. Then it got really crazy as the Hornets forced three overtimes before losing, 59-55. Caleb Jeter had 25 points for Blackwell, which fell to 2-6 in District 12-A, Division II and 9-14 overall while Robert Lee improved to 4-4 and 12-9.
Blackwell, which still has six games left to play, also received double figure scoring from Caleb Magness (14 points) and Brandon Elliott (11 points).
â€śThe boys played very well,â€ť coach Nathan Hayes said. â€śIâ€™m proud of the effort we gave.â€ť
Robert Lee also won the girls game, 57-16. Jennifer Allen and Amanda Bullard had four points, Jessica Morrow three, Kaitlyn Gas-ton and Reccie Roland two and Summer Mull one for Blackwell (2-7, 6-17).
Sweetwaterâ€™s freshman girls, meanwhile, went on the road to Snyder and lost, 56-39, despite getting 11 points from Shaneese Brown and Sydney Vander-bilt. Sweetwater (3-2, 13-5) also got five points from Kayla Chowning, Taylor McPherson and Mikki Reschman and two points from Karlee Murff.
Despite Cole Maxwellâ€™s 14 points and Ryan Linebaughâ€™s 10, Sweetwaterâ€™s junior varsity boys lost to Snyder by a score of 41-35. Kyle McSherry had nine points and Matt Kitchens two for Sweetwater (0-4, 10-12).
