Hornets still have a shot at playoffs

The Highland boys kept their playoff hopes alive Friday with a 38-35 victory over Hermleigh.
Sheldon Hall’s 14 points led Highland, which im-proved to 4-7 in District 11-A, Division II and 6-21 overall. Hermleigh is still in third place after the loss but dropped to 5-6, and Loraine (4-6), Highland and Trent (4-7) are all in contention for the No. 3 playoff spot with one game left. High-land ends the regular season at Roby (9-2) on Tuesday.
Also scoring for Highland on Friday were Landon Rowlett with 10 points, Ron Covington with eight and Josh Andrews with six.
The playoff-bound High-land girls played a warmup game Friday at Stamford and lost, 66-59. Highland led Stamford 18-6 after one quarter, 34-26 at halftime and 50-45 after three periods but was outscored 21-9 in the final eight minutes.
Highland (19-11), the District 11-A, Division II runnerup, starts the playoffs Tuesday by facing Robert Lee in bi-district at 7 p.m. in Bronte. Kara Hughey scored 19 points while Sierra Allen had 18 and Callie Sandusky 15 against Stamford, which the District 9-A, Division I runnerup this season. Shy-an Womack had six points and Jessica McCain one.
Highland was 10-2 in district play, beating everyone except Roby (12-0), the dis-trict champion. The Lady Hornets, coached by Ryan Dollar, are in the playoffs for the 10th straight year.
