Hunt’s bid falls short

April 16, 2014

LUBBOCK — Despite a solid 77 in Tuesday’s final round, Sweetwater’s Michael Hunt just missed reaching the Class 3A state golf tournament in Austin.
Hunt’s two-day 152 score at the District 4-3A tournament (75-77) garnered him an overall 11th place medalist finish.
But Mac Rochell of And-rews Gold (146), Zane Washburn of Gatesville (148) and Devin Roberson of Big Spring (150) will go to state this year by virtue of shooting the three lowest scores for schools whose teams did not finish among the top three at the district tournament. Hunt, a sophomore, was making its first regional appearance.
