Michael Hunt of Sweet-water will make his first trip to regionals next week after shooting his best round of the District 4-3A golf tour-nament Tuesday while play-ing on his home course.
After shooting 77s in the first two rounds of the tour-nament, Hunt carded a 74 in his final round — which was played at Sweetwater Country Club — to finish fourth among district medalists with a 228 total.
The sophomore qualified for regionals by having one of the two lowest scores for a player not on one of the top two teams. He and teammate Mason Andrews, who also shot 74 to finish in eighth place with a 235 total — earned all-district honors. The Region I-3A tournament will be played April 14-15 in Lubbock.
Sweetwater, which began the day in fifth place in the team standings, finished in fourth after shooting a 319 — its best round of the tournament — for a 989 total. The Mustangs traded pla-ces with Monahans, which shot 332 to finish at 991.
