The Sweetwater-Nolan County Health Department (SNCHD), located at 301 E.12th, will have their annual immunization fun day event on Wednesday, June 22 from 8:30-11:30 a.m. and 1-4:30 p.m. This is a normal day for immunization clinic but they have set this day to emphasis the importance of making sure children’s immunizations are up-to-date. They plan to make it a special day for the children; each child receiving immunizations will receive a balloon, stickers and more. Also, parents will have a chance to win a $50 gas card. They will have a drawing after the morning clinic and one at the end of the clinic. Those entering do not have to be present to win. Parents are asked to bring their child’s immunization record to the clinic. The cost is $6 per child. Medicaid and CHIPS are accepted. The immunization clinic on Wednesday, June 15 has been cancelled.
Parents are reminded that all students entering kindergarten are required to have two doses of Hepatitis A vaccine, and two doses of measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine; and all students entering seventh grade are required to have one dose of Tetanus and Diphtheria toxoids and acellular Pertussis vaccine (TDAP) vaccine, one dose of meningococcal vaccine, and two doses of varicella vaccine. A written statement from a parent (or legal guardian), school nurse or physician attesting to a child’s positive history of varicella disease (chickenpox), or of varicella immunity is acceptable in lieu of either dose of varicella vaccine. The health department is encouraging parents to vaccinate their children now and not to wait for the next school year to begin.
Family Planning services are available through several funding sources. Services include pap smears, breast exams, pregnancy testing, methods of birth control and screening and testing for sexually transmitted diseases. For an appointment call 235-2869.
