SNCHD to host Immunization Fun Day
By Linda Kite
SNCHD Public Health Promotion Coordinator

The Sweetwater-Nolan County Health Department (SNCHD), located at 301 E.12th, will have another immunization fun day event on Wednesday, July 10, from 8:30-11:30 a.m. and 1-6 p.m. This is a normal day for immunization clinic but the health department has set this day to emphasize the importance of making sure children’s immunizations are up-to-date. The health department plans to make it a special day for the children; each child receiving immunizations will receive a free Italian ice. Little Jimmy’s Italian Ices will be set up at the health department. Buzzy the Bee, the health department's immunization mascot, will also be there to greet the kids between 1:30-5:30 p.m. Children with private health insurance are encouraged to call their provider to see if vaccines are covered, if vaccines are covered they need to go to their physician, if it does not pay for vaccines then the child can be vaccinated at the health department. There is a $6 administration fee per a child, Medicaid, and CHIPS are accepted. The health department wants to remind parents that children going into seventh grade must have the three required vaccines.
The health department will be closed on Thursday, July 4 for Independence Day.
Family Planning services are available through several funding sources. Services include pap smears, breast exams, pregnancy testing, methods of birth control and screening and testing for sexually transmitted diseases. For an appointment call 235-2869.
