Immunize children now — don’t wait until school starts
The Sweetwater-Nolan County Health Department (SNCHD), located at 301 E.12th, encourages parents to get their children immunized now and not wait until school starts. Parents are reminded that all students entering kindergarten are required to have two doses of Hepatitis A vaccine, and two doses of measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine; and all students entering seventh grade are required to have one dose of Tetanus and Diphtheria toxoids and acellular Pertussis vaccine (TDAP) vaccine, one dose of meningococcal vaccine, and two doses of varicella vaccine. A written statement from a legal guardian, school nurse or physician attesting to a child’s positive history of varicella disease (chickenpox), or of varicella immunity is acceptable in lieu of either dose of varicella vaccine. SNCHD will have another immunization fun day event on Wednesday, July 20 from 8:30-11:30 a.m. and 1-4:30 p.m. The health department plans to make it a special day for the children. Each child receiving immunizations will receive a balloon, stickers and more. Also, parents will have a chance to win a $50 gas card. There will be a drawing after the morning clinic and one at the end of the clinic. Those entering do not have to be present to win. Parents are asked to bring their child’s immunization records. The cost is $6 per child. Medicaid and CHIPS are accepted.Family Planning services are available through several funding sources.
