Funeral services for Israel "Bombie" Morales, R.N., 51, of Sweetwater, will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 25, 2011, at McCoy Chapel of Memories with Rev. Frankie Santiago officiating. Interment will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
A Rosary was said at 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 24, 2011, at McCoy Chapel of Memories.
Morales died Friday, July 22, 2011, at Shannon Hospital in San Angelo.
He was born Feb. 18, 1960, in Sweetwater. Israel was born and lived all his life in Sweetwater. He loved his family more than anything and would do anything anytime for them. He also loved traveling, shopping, cooking, swimming and gardening. Israel was honored in the Cambridge Who's Who 2006-2007 edition for his work in the medical field. He began working when he was 16, life guarding at the pool. He graduated high school in 1978 from Sweetwater High School where he then went to TSTC for two years and received his LVN license. After that he attended Angelo State University for three years and received an Associate's degree and became and RN. From there he worked at Hendrick Medical Center as a charge nurse for 17 years, also working at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital, MHMR, taught at TSTC and more recently at Encompass Home Health. Israel was also co-owner of La Cocina Restaurant.
Survivors include his mother, Nester Torres and Manuel Soliz of Sweetwater; sister, Rosie Torres of Sweetwater; nephew, Eddie Torres and Brena Gotcher of Sweetwater; niece, Misty Torres of Sweetwater; and seven great-nieces, Ashley Torres, Destiny Jones, Alyssa Garcia, Allison Torres, Emerald Torres, Addison Torres and Milani Torres.
He was preceded in death by his father, Israel N. Morales; step father, Pedro O. Torres; a great-nephew, Roger David Torres; paternal grandparents, Elizandro and Albina Morales; and maternal grandparents, Nick and Anita Rodriguez.
Pallbearers will be Robert Morales, P.J. Garza, Mark Meneses, George Underwood, Brooks Whisenant and Michael Torres.
