James E. “Blackie” Blackwell

Graveside services for James E. “Blackie” Blackwell, 97, of San Angelo, will be held Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012, at 3 p.m. at Blackwell Cemetery. Rev. Ward Hayes will officiate with interment to follow under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Blackwell died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012, in San Angelo.
He was born March 12, 1915 in Paris, Texas. He was married to Francis Evelyn Goodwin. He loved his wife dearly. He enjoyed golf, gardening, fishing and talking with friends. He also loved taking care of fruit trees and reading.
Survivors include his son, Robert E. Blackwell of Fort Worth; grandchildren, Gwen Leger & husband Marlin of Gretna, LA, Mark Blackwell of San Angelo, and Scott Blackwell of Knoxville, TN; grand-son-in-law, Rocky Hummel of Knoxville, TN; great-grandchildren, Jessica Blackwell of New Orleans, LA, Sabrina “Bina” Lozano & husband Kevin of Abilene, Tanya Blackwell of Abilene, Katie Blackwell of Abilene, and Donnie Sigur, Jr. of New Orleans, LA; seven great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn “Babe” Blackwell, on Dec. 24, 2004; his parents; daughter-in-law, Jane Blackwell; granddaughter, Gay Hummel, on Oct. 20, 2010; brothers, Lawrence Blackwell, Herman Blackwell, and John Blackwell.
