Graveside services for James Edgar Pollard, 82, of Sweetwater will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at Sweetwater Cemetery. Stephen Gehring will officiate and interment will follow under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Pollard died Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital in Sweetwater.
He was born on Aug. 2, 1931, in Vernon, Texas. He married Betty Jean Pollard in 1954 in Lovington, New Mexico.
James was a graduate of Vernon High School and received his Bachelor of Science Degree from McMurry University, his Masters Degree from Abilene Christian University and Superintendent’s Degree from the University of Texas. He had been the band director at Albany Schools and principal at various schools across Texas before he became Superintendent. James was a lifelong educator and was a past member of the Lions Cub. He moved to Sweetwater from Graford, Texas in 1986. James was a U.S. Army Veteran during the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanna Pollard of Sweetwater; sons, James Donald Pollard of South Carolina and Jonathan Kyle Pollard of Sweetwater.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar L. and Ruby (Thompson) Pollard; and two sisters, LaVerne Phelps and Janette Lehman.
