Military graveside services for James Everett âJimâ Lane, Jr., 59, of Hermleigh, formerly of Sweetwater, will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013 at Goldthwaite Memorial Cemetery in Goldthwaite, Texas with Pastor Doug Holtzclaw officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013, from 6:30-9 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home.
Lane died Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, in Hermleigh, Texas. He was born April 25, 1954, in Midland.
Jim came to Sweetwater from Midland at the age of three weeks and lived in Sweetwater most of his life. He was a graduate of Sweetwater High School in 1972 and attended the Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa, Oklahoma and became an aircraft mechanic working for McDonald Douglas in Tulsa. He was also an appliance repairman. He was a U.S. Marine veteran and was a pilot and flew with the Marine band around the country. Jim loved fishing and hunting and had been a hunting guide in New Mexico for a while.
Survivors include his brothers, Robert Lennon Lane and wife Oweda of Champion and Bill Lane and wife Robin of Lubbock; sister, Judy Banks and husband Wayne of Mt. Vernon, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Billie Faye McDonald Lane on April 15, 1995 and James Everett âJimâ Lane, Sr., on Feb. 11, 2010; and his nephew, Lennon Lane on Aug. 4, 2002.
Military honors will be performed by the U.S. Marine Corp.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Banks, Marty Treider, Bobby Lane, Jr., Brad Farley, Robert Stratton and Lynne Squires.
Honorary pallbearers are Bobby Lane, Sr., Jason Hendrix and members of the United States Marine Corp.
