“If I chose a song lyric that fit James, it would be from Vince Gill’s ‘Go Rest High on that Mountain.’ Every time I hear it, I think of him: ‘I know your life on Earth was troubled and only you could know the pain. You weren’t afraid to face the devil, you’re no stranger to the rain. Go rest high on that mountain, son. Your work on earth is done. Go to Heaven a shoutin’, but for the Father and the Son!’” (From Sherry, a very close cousin.)
James attended AA, loved motorcycles, farmed and ranched. He was baptized at 4th and Elm Church of Christ.
He was survived by his daughter, Miesha; aunt, Maudie Williams of Abilene; cousins, Joe Wallace of Bluffdale, Elaine Wallace Hyles of Ft. Worth, Sherry Davis Vaughan of Holly Lake Ranch, Mel Roggenbuck of Bedford, Gary Wallace of Hawkins, Keith Hand of Keller, Jocelyn Hand Vaskas of Holland, Mike Williams of Lueders, Don Williams of Lueders, Velma Ward of Snyder and James Bay of Levelland.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Emery F. (Buck) and Mary Jo Hand; brother, Billy Wayne Hand; grandparents, M.F. and Leah Hand and James and Josie Day; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
