James Melvin Veal, 72, of Sweetwater, was born on Nov. 29, 1940, in Fort Worth to Melvin and Mary Veal. James met with his maker on Aug. 14, 2013 at 10 p.m. at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital. James was a cook for many of the local restaurants, including Stars Drive-In, Rosaâ€™s Cafe and Jackâ€™s Steakhouse. He served his country while being in the United States Navy. James enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, dancing, cooking and most of all spending time with his family. James married his wife Brenda Hale on July 23, 1991. They were married for 22 years before his departure. James and Brenda were blessed with six kids to share their love with.
James is survived by his wife, Brenda Veal of Sweetwater; daughters, Elizabeth Hill and spouse Douglas Lindsey of Abilene, Lanette Peeples and Latisha Veal, both of Sweetwater; sons, Bobby Cody and spouse Donna of Sweetwater and Allen Cody and significant other Dolly Torres of Sweetwater; mother, Mary Marie (REE REE) Veal of Sweetwater; brother, Eldon Veal; sisters, Zelda Wortham of Zephyr and Nettie McQueen of Sweetwater. James had numerous grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews who he loved dearly.
He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Veal, and two sons, Christopher Veal and Travis Wright.
Memorial services for James M. Veal will be held at 10 a.m. at First Assembly of God Church with Pastor Wayne Kirk officiating. Visitation will be at 11:30 a.m. at McCoy Funeral Home and graveside services will be at noon at Sweetwater Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Cody, Allen Cody, Joshua Bailey, Drew Bunn, Terry Davis, Timothy Holsey and Glenn Kamer.
Honorary pallbearers will be all of his grandchildren.
