James William Mardis

James William Mardis, 72, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2011. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011, at McCoy Chapel of Memories, with the Reverends Jerry Payne and Keith Clifton officiating. Interment will follow at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sweetwater. The family will receive friends on Friday, from 6-8 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home, 401 E. 3rd Street in Sweetwater.
James was born Oct. 29, 1938, in Fisher County, Texas, to James and Effie Lucille Mardis. On Aug. 27, 1956, he married Barbara E. Thompson in Busby, Texas.
He was an Electronic Engineer for 50 years working for KTXS Television from 1960 to 1984. In 1984, he went to work for EC&M until his retirement. He also worked for Sun Oil Company for five years, as well as being a cabinet builder for May Brothers Lumber Co. James was a life-long resident of Sweetwater, and a member of Lamar Street Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Madison Mardis on Aug. 18, 1978 and Effie Lucille Mardis on Dec. 7, 2008; a sister, Gaylen Cagle on July 6, 2009; and a nephew, James Cagle on Sept. 29, 2010.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Mardis of Sweetwater; son, Sammy Mardis and Rebecca of Sweetwater; daughter, Sabrina Mardis Kinsey of Brownwood, TX; his grandchildren, Brandon Kinsey and wife Lisa and Beau Kinsey of Pearland, TX and Jacob Wade Mardis of Sweetwater; and a great-granddaughter, Katelyn Kinsey of Pearland, Texas.
Pallbearers will be Billy Whisenant, Jerry Swindle, Danny Cantrell, Wendell Wade, Stacy Johnson and Gary Watson.
