Janice “Jan” Earle Thornton

ROTAN- Janice “Jan” Earle Thornton, passed away Monday May 2, 2011 at Hendrick Hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday May 4, 2011, at the First United Methodist Church of Rotan with Bro. Ward Hayes officiating. Burial will follow in Belvieu Cemetery under the direction of Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Jan was born July 24, 1942, in Rotan and was raised by her parents J.P. and Louise (Cook) Cyphers. She graduated from Rotan High School and attended West Texas State University in Canyon. Jan married Charles Thornton on August 23, 1961, at Rotan. She worked at National Gypsum and the First National Bank of Rotan until her retirement. Jan was a member of the First United Methodist Church, VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the Rotan Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She loved playing computer games, fishing and relaxing on the porch. Jan is preceded in death by her parents and her beloved grandmother.
Jan is survived by her husband of forty-nine years, Charles Thornton of Rotan; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Carla Thornton of Rotan; a daughter and son-in-law, Jenna and Ward Hayes of Sweetwater; seven grandchildren, Bre Monsey and husband Michael, Kollin Smith and husband Johnny, Caila Thornton and fiance’ Sean Lee Jr., Cameron Thornton, Tate Hayes, Mackensey Hayes and Hanna Hayes; three great-grandsons, Hudson Smith Layne Smith and Caisen Lee;  her dog (Nash) and her cat (Truman).
