At the January meeting of the Sweetwater ISD (Independent School District) Board of Trustees, a proclamation was presented by Sweetwater Mayor Greg Wortham declaring January as School Board Appreciation Month.
The document explained the role of a school board member, whose commitment to children in becoming successful learners comes about by tailoring education to a child's individual needs. By working closely with parents, educational professionals and other community members, school board members have the responsibility of ensuring a foundational structure for the school system.
Furthermore, school board members advocate for public education and communicate the needs of the school district to the public and the public's expectation of the district.
"I urge all citizens to join me in recognizing the dedication and hard work of local school board members and in working with them to mold an education system that meets the needs of both today's and tomorrow's children," Mayor Wortham stated in the proclamation.
