Members of the Nolan County Foundations have been stressing the number 101. As reported by Homer Taylor, Executive Director of the NCF, the number represents the number of Nolan County high school graduates who have been awarded $1,000 scholarships to attend any Texas College since the NCF started the Scholarship Golf Classic in 2005.
This year the Jere Lawrence Memorial Golf Classic is set for Saturday, April 16 at Sweetwater Country Club. Lawrence was one of the original founders of the NCF and he continually stressed the importance of the best education possible for our citizens. Registration is to begin at 8 a.m., with a shotgun start to begin at 9 a.m.
Jerry Riggs, NCF President, stated that board members are now seeking sponsorships, as well as four person teams and/or individuals to sign up for this worthwhile annual event. Individuals may call Don Timm at the Country Club Pro Shop at 325-8093, Homer Taylor at the NCF office at 236-6680, or any member of the NCF Board. Other NCF board members include Ronnie Cox, J.V. Martin, Glenn Bennett, Ronald Williams, Rod Wetsel, Bill Johnson, Jan Smith, Tom Rees Jr., John Jay, and Carolyn Lawrence. Jacque McCoy, Chamber of Commerce Executive also serves as an advisor to the NCF.
Any current high school senior graduating this spring may contact their respective high school counselor or Homer Taylor to secure an application for scholarship assistance. Deadline for receipt of applications has been set for May 2.
Taylor concluded that this year's Classic should be completed before 2 p.m Coffee and pastries will be served at registration, with a brown bag lunch and refreshments available at the turn for all players.
Sponsor Levels:
• Named Event Sponsors: $5,000 which includes listings on all publicity, large banner at registration, two four person teams.
• Business Level: $1000 which includes listings on all publicity, banner at registration, four person team.
• Green Sponsor: $250 which includes company logo posted on green, one person for golf.
• Cart Sponsor: $150 which includes logo on cart and one person for golf.
• Individual Player: $50.
