Funeral services for John H. Henley, Jr., 70, of Sweetwater, will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at McCoy Chapel of Memories. Reverend Wayne Kirk will officiate and interment will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 2, 2014 from 6-8 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home.
Henley died Sunday, June 29, 2014 at his home.
He was born May 1, 1944 in Rotan. He married Mattie E. “Sue” Underwood on Aug. 24, 1967 in Abilene.
John moved to Sweetwater from Abilene in 1967. He worked for AT&T for 38 years and was a Communications Technician and was a member of CWA. John attended Hardin-Simmons University and was a member of First Assembly of God Church. He was a farmer and rancher and loved raising horses and cattle. He enjoyed traveling and taking cruises. Survivors include his sons, William Henley and wife Margie of Shiner, Texas and John H. (Trace) Henley III of Nacogdoches, Texas; daughter, Cindy Henley of Sweetwater; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Lawanda Rogers of Abilene, Texas; and niece, Ann Marie Rogers of Abilene, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his wife on Sept. 12, 2012; daughter, Margaret Elizabeth Henley on April 23, 2010; and his parents, John H. Henley, Sr. and Alta Marie (Lawlis) Henley.
Pallbearers will be Roger Lawrence, Larry Willman, Jerry Gourtney, Charlie Underwood, Tommy Hernandez and Clyde Wagner.
