John Thomas Hyde, 67, of Nolan, passed away Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. at First Baptist Church in Sweetwater. Rev. Billy Oliver will be officiating funeral services, with Rev Vic Meyer assisting. There will be a visitation on Monday, February 18, 2013 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at McCoy Funeral Home.
John Thomas was born March 28,1945 in Sweetwater to parents Mack and Tommie (McCoy) Hyde. Thomas graduated from Divide High School in 1963. He married his high school sweetheart Linda Sue Saunders on July 25,1964 in Nolan,TX. He ran track for McMurry University on scholarship. He graduated from McMurry University in 1967 with a degree in Education. He was a coach at Paint Rock and then moved to Highland, where he was a coach and principal. Thomas was inducted into the 6 Man Coaches Hall of Fame in 2003. He served as Director on the board for Taylor Telephone COOP from August 1979 until March 1996. He was hired as assistant manager in March 1996 and General Manager in November 1997. He retired from Taylor Telephone in March of 2010. Thomas was a quiet man , with a hearty laugh and a giving heart. He loved the outdoors from farming and fishing. He loved his family with every ounce of his being, following his grandkids to stock show, ballgames, and recitals. He was a member of Nolan Baptist Church.
Thomas leaves behind his loving wife of 48 years, Linda, a son Duane and wife Cyree of Highland, a daughter Stacy and partner Lara of Lubbock. Grandchildren: Kristin Gomez and husband Jonathan of San Angelo and Michael of Highland. He was also survived by two sisters, Angie Daves and husband Drennan of Sweetwater and Marsha Alexander and husband Kim of Roscoe, Mother-In-Law Rae Self of Sweetwater, In-Laws: Harvey Saunders and wife Aundrea of McCloud, Oklahoma, Clayton Saunders and wife Nancy of Cat Springs, TX, Robin Perdue and husband Jim of Farmington, NM and Ann McCoy and husband John of Farmington, NM and many nieces, nephews, cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Mack and Tommie Hyde.
Pallbearers will be: Louis Brooks Jr., Lane Jackson, Earl Jones, Dalton Owens, Steve Singletary, Bill Whisenhunt. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Taylor Telephone Board of Directors.
In lieu of flowers family ask donations be made to American Heart Association. Or another charity of your choice.
