Dr. James Marvel, M.D., Orthopedic Surgeon at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital (RPMH), was the guest speaker at July’s Lunch and Learn Seminar on joint replacement. Using actual operating tools, including one of his own design, Dr. Marvel explained the process of a full knee replacement and demonstrated the different parts that go into a new knee (shown).
He explained that, in most cases, a total joint replacement should be looked into after all other avenues are exhausted, especially if the patient is young.
Along with the surgical procedure, Dr. Marvel explained the recovery process involved with a total joint replacement.
Dr. Marvel has been with RPMH for four months and brings 40 years of medical and surgical experience to the hospital.
