Holy Mass of Christian Burial for Jova Meneses Olguin, 84, of Sweetwater, will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Father Charles Okonkwo will officiate and interment will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery, under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
A Rosary will be recited by Lupe Medellin at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 7, at McCoy Funeral Home.
Olguin died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, in Lubbock.
She was born Nov. 28, 1928, in Sweetwater. She married Toribio Olguin on May 1, 1944 in Lubbock. Jova had lived in Sweetwater all her life and was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. She was a member of the Guadalupanas. She had worked in housekeeping at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital for many years. She loved gardening, flowers, sewing and most of all, being close to her family.
Survivors include her daughter, Odelia Arredondo of Sweetwater; sons, Ricardo Olguin and wife Barbara of Sweetwater and Daniel Olguin and wife Connie of Sweetwater; sister, Cruz Ybarra of Fort Worth; brothers, Jesus Meneses of Sweetwater and Benny Meneses and wife Loyce of Sweetwater; 21 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; and eight-great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Toribio Olguin on April 7, 1990; son, Benjamin Olguin on June 25, 2000; granddaughter, Jennifer Gomez in 2004; sisters, Chenta Rivera, Margarita Gonzales, Maria Reyes and Eloisa Gutierrez; and her parents, Cleofas and Ventura Torres Meneses.
Pallbearers will be Elias Olguin, Joseph Olguin, Johnny Gutierrez, Ben Olguin, Donovan Carrion and Mark Meneses.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jesse Olguin, Ernest Salazar and Salvador Salgado.
