JV and freshmen lose close contests

Sweetwater sub-varsity football team coverage

Sweetwater was defeated by Big Spring by close mar-gins in both sub-varsity high school football games this past Thursday.
The freshmen lost 8-0 and the JV fell to Big Spring 22-18. The freshman game was deadlocked 0-0 until Big Spring got the only points in the fourth period. Mark Lawrence, Daniel Maldonado, Dylan Jimenez, Austin Kamer, Adrian Viz-zerra and D’Jaman West were offensive standouts for the freshmen while stand-outs on defense were Viz-zerra, Maldonado, Israel Vera, Branson Guelker, Denzell Moore, J’Corey Amos, Michael Lawrence and Max Nemir.
For the JV, Max Gomez (12-of-19, 176 yards) threw TD passes of 70 yards to Deandre Gatson and 42 yards to Kris Duran. Trey Harvey scored on a 12-yard run in the third quarter. Gatson caught five passes for 79 yards.
Mike McCoy recovered an onside kick in the first quarter and Stephen Le had a fumble recovery.
Both Sweetwater teams are now 5-3 overall and will make the long road trip to Monahans this Thursday, before ending their seasons on Nov. 8 when they return home to entertain Wylie.
