JV, freshman boys defeat Ballinger to stay on a roll

Sweetwater sub-varsity boys basketball highlights

Sweetwater’s two boys sub-varsity teams continued their winning ways here on Friday by defeating Ballinger squads.
The JV boys are now 13-5 after they rallied for a 45-33 win, and the freshman boys improved their mark to 8-3 by beating Ballinger 47-17 in their first game of 2012.
Trey Taylor poured in 24 points for the JV, who came back strong in the second half after trailing 10-8 at the end of the first quarter and by three points, 21-18, at halftime. Sweetwater was up by three points (28-25) after winning the third per-iod 10-4, then pulled away with a 17-8 finish.
Brandon Howell also hit double figures for Sweet-water by scoring 10 points while Quentin Wetsel scored four points, Deandre Gat-son three and Marquees Jenkins and Mike McCoy two apiece to round out the team’s total.
The freshman boys had a much easier time Friday, leading Ballinger 15-5, 30-7 and 39-9 at the breaks. Duanta Williams had 14 points and J.P. Poe had seven, while Bray Amos, Nick Haley and Martes Harris six and Jonathan Neri and Rhett Torres four for the Ponies.
Both teams go to San Angelo Lake View Tuesday for their final non-district games of the year.
