Sweetwater High Schoolâ€™s two sub-varsity volleyball teams finished up successful campaigns on a high note this past Tuesday by beating Snyder in season-ending matches.
The JV girls (22-11 season, 5-5 in district) won their match over Snyder by scores of 25-14, 25-19.
Katie Fox led the team with six kills while Abby Garcia had a team-high 15 digs and three blocks and Sarah Valdez led Sweetwater with 13 assists. Alyssa Soles had three kills and seven digs; Lauren Jones finished with three kills and six digs; Kristi Ward had seven digs, Valdez six and Fox five; and Marisa Moncada had two kills and four digs. Garcia, Fox and Moncada all had two service aces.
The freshman girls (25-8 season, 6-4 in district) also swept their match as they won by scores of 25-19, 26-24. Davina Walker had six kills, five assists, five digs and one ace; Kaitlyn Foster had five kills, two digs, five assists and three aces; Annaliese Espinoza had two kills and nine digs; Rhylee Meneses had 10 digs and one ace; Natalie Val-dez had two digs and one ace; and Kaitlynn Painter had one dig and two aces against Snyder.
Sweetwater also won its recent JV girls matches over Big Spring (28-26, 25-16) and Greenwood, while losing to Wylie by scores of 14-25 and 26-28.
Fox had six kills and three digs and Garcia had five kills against Big Spring, while Valdez led the team with nine assists. Soles had five digs, one kill and one assist; and Jones finished with four kills and one assist. Garcia, Jones, Moncada and Valdez had two aces and Fox one.
Jones had five kills and 12 digs against Wylie; Garcia had four kills, 18 digs and two blocks; Soles finished with four kills, 10 digs and one block; and Valdez had nine assists and 11 digs. Ward had four digs and Fox and Moncada three. Fox also had one kill and Valdez, Soles, Jones, Fox and Moncada all had aces. Jones also had one block and two assists.
For the freshman girls, Walker had five kills, nine assists, seven digs and three aces and Foster added five kills, 13 digs, two assists and one ace in a recent win against Big Spring. Espino-za had six kills and 15 digs; Meneses had three kills, 10 digs and one ace; Painter had 10 digs, two aces and one assist; Valdez had five digs and two aces; and Destiny Renteria had four digs and one ace.
Sweetwater used a com-bined JV-freshman squad in beating Greenwood 25-16, 25-14, and the freshmen lost to Wylie 17-25, 14-25.
Soles had a team-high four kills and Garcia three against Greenwood, while Valdez led the team with seven assists. Soles also had three digs, as did Walker and Meneses, while Garcia had three kills and led the team by recording five digs and six aces. Fox had two kills and three aces.
Brittany Peeples led the freshman girls with four kills vs. Wylie. Foster had a team-high three aces while Meneses had eight digs, Valdez and Espinoza seven and Foster five.
