Sweetwater’s junior var-sity girls basketball team has a perfect 19-0 record entering today’s 5 p.m. game with Big Spring after winning 38-24 at Wylie this past Friday.
Cierra Knox had 14 points to lead Sweetwater (5-0 in district play), which led 16-12 at halftime and outscored Wylie 14-5 in the third quarter to open a 30-17 lead. Abby McPherson scored seven, Shaneese Brown six, Maddie Jones five, Bianca Castillo four and Nisha Williams two.
However, the freshman girls lost their game 35-13. Abby Garcia and Morgan Rudel each scored five points while Marissa San-chez had two and Hanna Hayes one for Sweetwater, which is now 3-2 in district play and 10-6 overall.
The JV boys try again to-day for their first win after losing 50-22 at Wylie on Friday.
D. Williams had six points for Sweetwater (0-11, 0-3) while M. McCoy, M. Trevino and J. Ruiz had four points and M. Jenkins and T. Taylor two each.
The freshman boys (6-3, 0-3) lost 78-19. Michael Lawrence had nine points, J’Corey Amos six and Hardy Escobar four.
