Kiwanis Club donates to Sweetwater Allstars
Team holding fundraiserThe 2011 Sweetwater Little League Allstars (10-11 year olds) are district champs. After a two game win over Wylie, they have earned the District 5 Championship title for the second year running and will advance to the Sectional tournament in Waco for a week-long tournament with a chance to move on to the State Championship.They now advance to the Texas West Section II tournament July 13-17 at Waco. The same players went to a sectional tournament in Fort Worth last summer as 9- and 10-year-olds.A Senior League (ages 15-16) team is also playing in a Texas West Section II tournament that will be held July 13-16 in Garland."Our community is the key to our success, and becoming a member of the Sweetwater Allstar Dugout Club enables you to show your support by contributing to build a strong tradition of baseball for Sweetwater. Contributions to the baseball program are a great way for parents, grandparents, family members, friends and area businesses to support Sweetwater Allstars," said head fundraisers."As a thank you for your donation, Dugout Club members will be recognized on our Dugout Club banner made with the names of every business that contributes. "The Sweetwater Allstars appreciates all the community support and we will proudly hang our banner at all games in and out of town."The 2011 10-11 year old Sweetwater Allstars are Isak Alvarez, Kobe Clark, Nicholas Figueroa, Ky Hoover, Tristan Longoria, Noah Martinez, Mason Maxwell, Kiante McCoy, Jordan McGee, Andrew Melendez, Taylor Turney and Christopher Thompson.For more information on the Dugout Club fundraiser, contact Kristie Hall at (325) 721-1934 or Julie Squires at (325) 370-0388.Also being held this weekend is the Reds Rally fundraiser with many activities being held to raise funds for the team’s trip to Waco.The event will take place beginning at noon on Saturday, July 9, 2011, at the Sweetwater major league baseball field. A ragball tournament will be held and teams are encouraged to participate in the tournament. Cost is $10 per team member. There will also be a home run derby, base race and air castle. Cost for all three events is $10. There will also be a Madden 2011 Play Station 3 tournament and cost is $5 to enter. There will also be a punt, pass and kick contest and the concession stand will be open and serving hot dogs, nachos and drinks. For the finale to the event, the boys on the team will play their parents in a baseball game.
