Lady ‘Stangs rally past Graham

The Sweetwater softball team picked up its fifth con-secutive win in dramatic fashion here Tuesday.
The Lady Mustangs, who one point trailed 9-2, staged a huge comeback at Jerry Collins Complex as they de-feated Graham, 12-11.
Sweetwater, now 9-5, got its latest win with a six-run sixth inning and a four-run seventh. Maty Montgomery delivered the game-winning hit, which scored Megan Holsey and Abby Garcia.
Montgomery’s big hit also made her the winning pitcher as she went the dis-tance, allowing 10 hits and striking out five batters. At the plate, she finished with two singles and three RBIs. Holsey had a double and two singles, while both Suede Shirley and Kendra Crosson hit home runs for the Lady Mustangs.
Also getting hits were Alyssa Heredia with a double and Keyli Turner, Kendra Crosson, and Jerren Villa with singles.
Villa had two RBIs and Heredia, Shirley and Kendra Crosson one apiece.
Kendra Crosson also scored three runs and while in centerfield, she threw to Villa on the cutoff who threw to Morgan Gomez to get a runner at third base and complete the defensive play of the game.
Also scoring runs for Sweetwater in Tuesday’s game were Holsey (2), Garcia (2), Shirley, Heredia, Kelsi Crosson and Lena Lovelady.
The JV beat Graham 12-3. Rebecca Gonzales doubled while Alyssa Villanueva had two singles and Naomi Gonzales, Cierra Knox and Shaneese Brown one. Gonzales had three RBIs. Jaya Atkins scored three runs and Villanueva, Gabby Fuentes and Isabel Mendez scored twice.
Fuentes pitched, giving up two hits and striking out five batters.
