Lady Mustangs fall to Lady Lions
BROWNWOOD — Brownwood’s No. 18 Lady Lions lived up to their state ranking Tuesday, running off the game’s first 10 points and never looking back in a 55-26 win over Sweetwater that ended the regular season for both teams.Patricia Wilson had 19 points for Brownwood (6-2), which will be District 5-3A’s No. 2 playoff seed. Brownwood also stifled Sweetwater (1-7, 16-17) defensively, allowing just single-digit scoring in each of the first three quarters.Wylie (8-0) is the district champion, while Snyder (3-5) took the No. 3 seed by beating Big Spring 44-32 in a playoff-type showdown on Tuesday. Big Spring finished 2-6, while Snyder earned its first postseason berth since 2008.Brownwood set the tone for Tuesday’s game immediately as Sara Byrd and Sydnie Darden hit 3-pointers to fuel the team’s fast start. Wilson and Trinity Anson followed with 2-pointers before Sweetwater finally got on the scoreboard on a bucket from sophomore post Kendra Crosson.Junior post Alicia Finn led Sweetwater with seven points while Taylor McKoy, Candice Hernandez and Crosson had six apiece and Brittany Lashinski one. Lashinski, Aubra Hendrix and McKoy are the only graduating seniors for Sweetwater, which will return four starters next season.
